How to get your local business cited by Perplexity
Perplexity is useful for local owners because it shows its sources next to the answer. That means you can see exactly which pages it relied on when it recommended someone else — and what those pages say that yours don't.
Read the sources, not just the answer
Ask the service-and-city questions your buyers ask and open every cited source. Note whether they are competitor websites, directories, local news or 'best of' lists. That list is your map: it shows what kind of page the engine considered useful for that question.
Close the specific gap
If cited competitors have a page that clearly answers the question — what the service includes, which areas they cover, how pricing works — publish a better, accurate version on your own site. If the sources are third-party lists, make sure your listing there is complete and correct where you can legitimately edit it.
- · One clear page per real service, stating the areas you actually serve.
- · Specific, verifiable facts instead of slogans.
- · Consistent business details everywhere you are listed.
- · Pages crawlers can read without logging in or running heavy scripts.
Measure the same questions over time
Keep a fixed list of questions and re-run it on a schedule. Count how often you appear, and keep the question set unchanged when comparing periods. Appearing once is not a trend; not appearing once is not a verdict.

Common questions
- Does Perplexity use Google rankings?
- Perplexity does not publish a full description of how it ranks sources. Use the cited sources it shows you as the evidence, rather than assuming it mirrors Google.
- Will a press release get me cited?
- Only if it is published somewhere the engine finds and considers relevant to the question. A release is one possible source, not a guarantee.
